About

Katoomba Area Climate Action Now Inc. is a non-profit community-based group with no political party affiliations.

100pc Renewable Energy in the Winter Magic ParadeIt was formed by a small number of concerned Blue Mountains residents in 2006, with assistance from Friends of the Earth. Although small in number we are big on action, as you will see by exploring this site.

We incorporated in 2009 with the object of our association being:

“To mobilise the community to fight global warming and to act on issues related to climate change.”

We also seek to:

  • Raise awareness of the environmental and social issues associated with the use of fossil fuels as our current main energy source
  • Educate young and old about energy efficiency and sustainable energy alternatives
  • Empower people to create a world that is based on renewable, sustainable energy options.

Our philosophy

We endeavour to educate and empower the community, by providing information regarding the large-scale global problems associated with climate change and then demonstrating in practical ways the profound and positive impact that individual’s choices can have.

We believe it is up to all individuals to take responsibility for their actions and be proactive within their own lives and that of their communities.

We also believe in collaboration with like-minded groups to more effectively reach our goals.

KACAN surveying Springwood residents, May 2011We welcome new members who support these broad aims. Most of our members live between Blackheath and Lawson but we welcome members from all areas of the Blue Mountains.

We organise local events, provide relevant information to the community via brochures, articles, stalls and workshops, collaborate with Blue Mountains City Council and community groups to raise awareness about relevant issues and projects and take part in co-ordinated lobbying and actions by the broader climate movement.
